Along with Bang Tango’s latest release Pistol Whipped In The Bible Belt album artwork I had the pleasure of completing the package with side gig-poster collateral darkness. As a ‘come back’ tour is slated for the new year we dug deep in the creative pockets to create a masterful poster for this hard rocking band’s return. Producing an undead feel to all four members we explore the concept that Bang Tango never died and the recoil of their legendary sound is being restored throughout the air waves with a resonance that is sicker than ever.

On the bombastic side of all amazing hip-hop rapture I had the honor of dishing out the stylistic visional rawness from Beery Method Studio for the highly talented and all-time grinder K Sos (member of The NOC) for his latest release Sciamachy. Sos and I have collaborated on several of his independent projects consistently building the impressively eclectic bank of musical materials always packaged in the visionary world of this formidable hip-hop talent. K Sos further turns his world of maniacal beach flip-flop maestro and higher ‘green’ education guru genius into a the flavorful South Beach 40 oz. waffle-bottle dipped in LSD in this dichotomous mix-tape.

K Sos takes his layered hip-hop psychedelic style and adds bigger production to a short but solid lineup of songs he wrote over his last 10 months in Orlando. Before relocating to Miami in late summer, K Sos carefully sifted through more than 60 tracks for his new project Sciamachy. For those unfamiliar with the term, Sciamachy is the act of sparring with an imaginery opponent or fighting with your own shadow. Sos says he first heard the word on the National Kids Spelling Bee and instantly fell in love with its meaning. Very fitting for the time period that covers a range of topics including dealing with the loss of his mother, legal troubles, and Sos’s romanticized version of their journey towards success. As always, Sciamachy includes a short and humble list of guests from “Stay If you Will” featuring the soaring guitar work of Nick Romanelli, to the eerie vocals of Kate Rodriguez on “Skyway to Gorgeous”. The first single, “Lost in A Cloud” is one of Sos’s favorite tracks, along with a collaboration for the first time in several years with his cousin, Entertay, on “Zonin”. And what would a K Sos release be without the rest of the No Ordinary Cats. J.O. & Rams lend verses to Sos’s club track “Better for Me” while all four collaborate on the album’s monumental finale “Pretending”. K.D., whose pristine mixing ability can be heard throughout the album, realizes Sos’s vision more than ever on this one adds another great album to the No Ordinary Cats collection. K Sos hopes that this release will continue to raise awareness for his group and first love No Ordinary Cats who have been in the studio preparing a new and still untitled mix-tape for 2012.

Bang Tango | Pistol Whipped In The Bible Belt

I had the ultimate pleasure of working with some of the craziest, hardest hitting, stage-sweat slinging rockers in the music industry last year. A return to the recording studio from the multi-platinum hard rock band Bang Tango and a ridiculously amazing new album release from original front man Joe Lesté titled Pistol Whipped In The Bible Belt prompted a maniacal collaboration in producing a visual package that verifies the solid return of this intrepid group.

The overall feel and theme of the album is a gentrified wink at true Southern Blues contemporarily influenced Rock. We wanted to mix a little of that ‘sold my soul to the devil’ with odes to voodoo blues pioneers and give an edge to the otherwise vintage face of the CD bundle. Bang Tango agreed that a fold out 8 panel poster would be the perfect effect for the insert.

The jewel case cover explicitly shows the torso of a sexy, tattooed, six shooter toting female from the bottom of the breasts down. The cover folds out to reveal the southern blues bar theme. Complete with: Chick getting the front of her shirt ripped off by a brawler dude revealing her chest as he reaches for the broken bottle on the bar, a dazy duke chica in the back, Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters-esque characters at the bar, blues musician silhouettes on stage in the back, juke box, rebel flag, a smattering of art on the walls including Johnny Cash in the very back, boots hanging from the ceiling, antlers, instruments, etc…and my favorite…the whiskey bottle on the foreground of the bar with Bang Tango Label. There is a lot going on in there which will keep the fans exploring for more with every glance and make this album a favorite of Bang Tango collectors.

Bang Tango is a group of not only bad ass musicians but also amazing dudes who know how to live it up in the recording studio, on tour, and with fellow creatives. Check out a sneak peek of the life of Bang Tango during the recording of this album and see for yourself!

D-Day Artillery Box

To start off my new series of Custom Ammo Boxes I decided to create a World War II related design. Obviously this coincides nicely with the vintage artillery box in terms of theme. My father being an astute scholar of American/World War History made my choice of creating a D-Day Memorial type box easy as a gift that he can continually use to store his war trinkets, Grandfather’s letters from the front, and boasts highly detailed aesthetics to be an honorary display piece among other war-related paraphernalia.

The front of the D-Day Ammo Box displays vintaged lettering and the bold head of an American Eagle. Antique silver stripes angularly shoot down with the head of the eagle. Cracks of lightening styled grunge adorns the front and sides of the box.

The back of the ammo box illustrates a battalion of American soldiers lining up for the front. This is reminiscent of the scenes of amphibious marines who stormed the beaches of Normandy. Above the infantry line reads the historical D-Day date of June 6, 1944. The entire box is vintaged out with antique silver and a black and white monochromatic tone. It is ultimately a memorial display item that is also a functional piece of art.

I’ll continue to work on the series of custom ammo boxes for 2012. The series will not be entirely war themed and will span across and relate to corresponding projects I intend to release throughout the new year. These make perfect gifts and the new series will vary in pop culture, evil animated characters, and experimental stenciled themes.

I’m currently taking commissions for customized ammo boxes. There is a vast variety of different sizes of boxes available. The D-Day Ammo Box above is the M1 Caliber .30 small cartridge container. The beauty of this concept of functional art boxes is that every individual custom box is different, any theme or genre of imagery can be used, and they are sturdy metal boxes that will hold up through the test of time indefinitely.

My Zombie Yoda Plushform will be on display at OhNo!Doom in Chicago for the Plushform Show.

Shawnimals and Squibbles Ink have teamed up with OhNo!Doom in Chicago on this custom toy show with Plushform. Plushform is an, open-ended blank plush platform toy (think Kidrobot’s Munny, but softer…). Artists from around the world were invited to participate, each with a unique style that will not only show off the amazing talents of each artist, but also the versatility of the Plushform as a blank toy medium.

This new plush toy edition to The Deathside Collection pays tribute to the grand master Jedi of the Star Wars Galaxy.
