You can now purchase a selection of my Hobo-Eaters tees from my Coalesce Clothing line as well as my Pulp Street design from Defiant at Rotofugi Chicago! Rotofugi is your one stop shop for designer toys, urban art, and the goods that keep the inner child in you squealing for more. Owners Whitney and Kirby Kerr are simply amazing and do a phenomenal job of selecting quality merchandise. I’m super stoked to have some of the Beery apparel at Rotofugi and work with such passionate people. Rotofugi Designer Toy Store & Gallery, established in July 2004, is located on the border of Chicago’s Lincoln Park and Lakeview neighborhoods in a beautiful vintage building. Since opening, Rotofugi has grown to become one of the world’s premier sellers of designer toys from artists all over the world. Rotofugi features a diverse selection of vinyl figures, capsule toys, plush and more from both eastern and western designers. The adjoining Rotofugi Gallery features monthly art exhibits by a range of both local and nationally known artists.

Hobo-Eaters are on the rise in SF! Pumping out a slick installation for the Urban Undead show was a blast. Not only did I get to make my mark on the walls we got to do dope-ass window displays for the Zombie Rapper line and the cult favorite Pulp Street. Since my post for the show was inundated with photos from the evening I thought I’d post up a few shots of the Lycosa Master mural along with a couple peeks at the displays.

Where's my F'n wolf spider?

Ridin, high siding, low lifin...hobo!

half the line up.

Needless to say, the window displays are jaw dropping and create an instant impact on the Haight Street passerby’s and customers. Nothing says “you must buy this now!” like rap martyrs graves complete with gold head stones (bearing the tees), golden dirt and 40 oz’s. If your a fan of these kings you know what I mean. The Pulp Street display is fiendish in a very Tarentino-type way for sure. Taking a couple of mannequins, strapping a pistol to the hand, and wrapping the limp body of the target in yellow caution tape is just the spongy-inner goodness. Blasting the windows with fake blood (secret recipe) and a couple pieces of brains really set off the ‘crime scene’. When the hit men come knocking you best start pleading cause you will soon be bleeding!

Pulp Street was a perfect theme for our hardcore display installation talent. The recipe: pistols, blood, and yellow tape. The display is fiendish in a very Tarentino-type way for sure. Taking a couple of mannequins, strapping a pistol to the hand, and wrapping the limp body of the target in yellow caution tape is just the spongy-inner goodness.

Growing up as a youngster in the 80′s and then a teenager in the 90′s of course has it’s era-culture-candy as I like to put it. Yes I was a child who was hooked on Sesame Street (who the F wasn’t?). And yes I was the ripe age of 16 when Pulp Fiction came out (lucky me!). So here I am 15 years later when the cult classic and childhood nostalgia parodies are running rampant and speak massive volume to the Millenials (aka generation X) and I have to do my part to keep the mash up of memories alive in what I dub my Pop-Fiction series.

What better to start off this series than mashing up that infamous puppet duo Bert and Ernie with that other killer duo Vincent and Jules of Pulp Fiction? What I find hilarious about Bert being portrayed as Jules is that there was always this subdued underlining that Bert was just a hint on the angry/evil side. Ernie always seemed a little more passive aggressive and fit the role of Vincent perfectly. This painting was a blast to work on and I have moments of reflection when I look at it and say to myself, “what the hell is it that I do again?”, and laugh. This piece made it’s debut as part of the Malice In Wonderland show I curated back in July and had a huge impact on the crowd who came through the venue. I had a number of people who said they had a shitty day and when they saw this huge 4×4 foot painting their ill-affects were immediately lifted. I’m proud to make art that makes people laugh and feel good as I also work on a lot of edgy and dark pieces as standard.

There is a lot more to tell on this painting and I will be sharing more of the Pop-Fiction series soon. This piece is now for sale from Defiant at www.defiantwear.com and will also be featured in Big-Up magazine in Oct 2010. I’ll be updating the thread as news comes in!

Being the Art Director for Defiant is an absolute dream. Not only do I get to oversee all the aesthetics, artwork and design, I get to do rad action-sports shoots with our fantastic riders. These guys carve it up day and night, rain or shine. We recently did a shoot at the Greenlake skate park here in Seattle with one of our daredevils Charlie Philipp. Charlie excels on the verts and gets into an insane routine down in the bowls and out onto the rails. He maintains some heavy air time and is constantly on the thread of explosive defiance. Charlie, AKA Chuck D, is an amazing dude. This cat has the heart of a lion and a fierce yet positive attitude everywhere he skates. Here is a montage of some sick footage I had a blast putting together that day.
